Attention New Jersey Ophthalmologists:
Ophthalmology is Under Attack!
The optometrists have officially achieved introduction of a bill in both the NJ Assembly A-5445 (Benson/Giblin/McKnight) and Senate S3841 (Diegnan/Oroho) which calls for an aggressive expansion of the scope of practice for optometrists. This bill would allow optometrists to practice far beyond their training, education and experience including:
- Laser surgery on the eye to treat glaucoma
- Post cataract laser surgery on the eye
- Incisional surgery on the eyelid with injectable anesthesia
- Other surgeries unilaterally determined by the New Jersey State Board of Optometrists—which contains no medical doctors or trained surgeons!
